FEVER
(Simple).

Q. : Give in brief the indications for Aconite in fevers.

A. :

Sthenic Fevers,
with chilliness on the slightest movement ; dry heat of skin, thirst, red
cheeks, quickened respiration ; full, bounding, rapid, tense pulse, with
mental anxiety and aggravation towards evening.

Every motion makes the patient chilly, but he is at the same time very
restless from the mental anxiety.

Q. : When does Aconite cease to be of use ?

A. :

In the second
stage of inflammation ; when it has localized itself.

Q. : How does Aconite differ from Veratrum viride in fevers ?

A. :

Veratrum
viride
has more
arterial excitement and less nervous excitement than Aconite,
and a
characteristic of Veratrum
viride
is a bright
red streak through the centre of the tongue.

Q. : When is Belladonna indicated in fever ?

A. :

When there are
symptoms of delirium and cerebral excitement present, and a pungent heat
of the skin.

Q. : The fevers of Gelsemium, what characterizes them ?

A. :

Three D’s:
Drowsiness, Dullness and Dizziness ; soreness of muscles and absence of
thirst ; great prostration and remission of symptoms.

Q. : What is the fever of Pulsatilla ?

A. :

Chilliness
predominates ; fever without thirst, with oppression and sleepiness ;
worse about two or three in the afternoon.

Q. : Give four characteristics of Phosphorus in fever.

A. :

The adynamic, low type of fever.

thirst.

. The periodicity

or 5
in the afternoon.

which accompanies.

Q. : How can Aconite, Apis and Gelsemium be differentiated in fevers in
general ?

A. :

Aconite typifies
the synochal fever.

Gelsemium

typifies
remittent or intermittent.

Apis

typifies
intermittent or typhoid.

Q. :

Mention some
remedies having fever without thirst.

A. :

Apis, Phos.,
Puls., China
and Gelsemium.

Q. : What of the simple fever calling for Arsenicum ?

A. :

It is fever
belonging to intense local disease, to inflammation tending to destruction
of tissue.

There is anxiety, fear of death and restlessness.

Q. : When should Sulphur follow Aconite in fever ?

A. :

When despite Aconite
the dry heat
continues ; there is no perspiration ; the patient becomes drowsy and
restless, and tends to fall into a typhoid state from continuation of this
heat.

Q. : Give fever of Bryonia.

A. :

Hard, tense
pulse, intense headache, mouth dry, tongue coated white down middle ;
patient avoids light and motion.

Thirst for large quantities of water at long intervals.

FISSURE OF ANUS.

Q. : What are the symptoms of Graphites in fissure of the anus ?

A. :

Anus is
extremely sore ; stools covered with mucus ; no tenesmus or constriction.

Q. : Give symptoms for Paeonia.

A. :

Fissures with a
great deal of oozing ; the anus is moist, sore and smarting all the time.

Q. : Give indications for Nitricum acidum.

A. :

Fissure with a
sensation as if splinters or sticks were in the anus ; much tenesmus and
constriction.

Q. : When would Silicea be indicated ?

A. :

When the
characteristic irritability of the sphincter is present and the stool
slips back when partially expelled.

Q. : Give indications for Ratanhia.

A. :

Where there is
a great deal of constriction ; antis aches and burns for hours after
stool.
